Feis in the Park Results![]()
This past weekend, 4 of our ICR dancers (Marcille, Sherry, Judy, and Tobie) competed in the 5th Annual Mattierin Spring "Feis in the Park" in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
Sherry and Marcille both competed in solo dances and earned a number of first, second, third, fourth and fifth placings.
The group dances, danced by all four of our dancers, placed 2nd, 4th, and 5th for the 4-hand, 3-hand, and 2-hand figures, respectively.
The ICR Executive, as well as our members at large, would like to say Congratulations and well done!
Online Dance Class Registration![]()
Dance registration will begin in the summer for sessions beginning in September. Please check back then for more information.
The Irish Club of Regina has supported a dance program since 1995 initially under the leadership of Jim & Mary Fogarty and Ita Gomes. The first classes were set up in a fun, social, recreational atmosphere with the purpose of learning a few traditional Irish céilí (group soft shoe) dances. Beginner-level céilí and hard shoe classes were introduced in 2003 to accommodate those who were new to Irish dancing. Since 2005, our dance program has received monthly dance instruction from Laurie Henriksen, TCRG (international Irish dance certification). Weekly classes are currently led by experienced dancers and are held at St. Luke's Anglican Church Hall at 3233 Argyle Road. The dance program is governed by a formal dance framework as approved by the Irish Club of Regina executive.

We currently offer three levels of soft shoe and hard shoe classes. Both dance styles feature a mix of traditional and contemporary dances. Classes will be offered for all levels of interest, participation and skill. Prior dance experience is not required and there is no obligation to perform. Classes are open to both men and women from teen to adult.
For information on the mandate and structure of our dance program, please refer to our Dance Framework .
Our dance program is currently under the instruction of Laurie Henriksen , TCRG (international Irish dance certification). Laurie lives in Saskatoon and has taught Irish dance for the last six years with the Saskatoon Academy of Irish Dance. For more information about Laurie, you can check out the Saskatoon Academy of Irish Dance.
The profile of our dance program is increasing and we receive many requests for performances at events and establishments in Regina and surrounding communities. Past performances have included Mosaic in Regina, Motif in Moose Jaw, the Regina Mid-Winter Celtic Festival, Saskatchewan Roughrider's half time show, 2005 Saskatchewan Centennial celebrations and with Natalie McMaster and the Chieftains. As we are part of a non-profit organization, we do not charge for our performances. However, any honorarium received is much appreciated and helps keep our program viable. Performance bookings are taken on a first-come, first served basis.
If you have further questions about the dance program, wish to register for classes, or wish to book a performance, please contact the our Dance Coordinator at dance@irishclubofregina.org.

The ICR Dance committee is so very proud of each dancer who stepped out of their comfort zone into competition. Thanks to Laurie's direction & expertise and a lot of hard work and determination from all participants, all the dancers did really well. I believe this performance option for dancers moves the program to the next level and is a progressive step in promoting a dynamic element of Irish culture in Regina.
